Whitney Houston’s getting the Barbie treatment today with a new $60 signature doll featuring her in that iconic lilac dress from her biggest hit.
Whitney Houston is being immortalized in plastic form as Mattel dropped a brand-new Barbie Signature doll celebrating the legendary singer on August 9, which would’ve been her 63rd birthday.
The collector’s item features Whitney in that iconic lilac tank dress from her “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” music video, priced at $60 and created in close collaboration with Pat Houston, Executor of The Whitney E. Houston Estate.
This isn’t just another celebrity doll sitting on a shelf somewhere. It’s a full-circle moment for a woman whose voice changed everything about what it meant to be a superstar.

The doll comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and represents one of the most significant tributes to Houston’s legacy since her passing in February 2012.
She died at age 48 from accidental drowning at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel, just hours before she was set to attend Clive Davis’s pre-Grammy Awards party.
Black women getting their own Barbies isn’t new, but it’s still powerful every single time it happens.
Angel Reese just dropped her signature doll in July 2026 for $38, making her the first WNBA player to get the honor.
Before that, you had Beyoncé back in 2005, Zendaya in 2015, and Nicki Minaj joining the ranks. Each one of these dolls represents something real for young Black girls who grew up without seeing themselves reflected in toys.
What makes the Whitney doll different is the weight of her story. She wasn’t just a singer. She was a cultural force who dominated the ’80s and ’90s, breaking records and barriers simultaneously.
The doll captures a specific moment when she was at her absolute peak, performing one of the most iconic songs of her career. It’s a way of saying her impact never fades, even after all these years.
The doll is available for preorder on Walmart and Amazon, with shipments expected to arrive by September 11, 2026.
The estate’s involvement in the design process ensures that every detail honors who Whitney actually was, not some watered-down version of her legacy.
