Tiffany Haddish finally closes her four-year Georgia DUI case by accepting a guilty plea, ending years of delays that cost her international work opportunities.
Tiffany Haddish just wrapped up a four-year legal nightmare by taking a guilty plea to DUI driving less safe in Georgia, ending what became one of the most frustrating delays in her career.
The comedian appeared via video for the hearing on August 11, 2026, and walked away with no additional jail time, as the court credited her with time served following her initial arrest in January 2022.
Her Georgia driver’s license is now suspended, she’s on 12 months’ probation, and she’s got to stay completely away from drugs and alcohol while completing a mandatory DUI course and submitting to testing.
The whole situation started when Peachtree City police found her asleep behind the wheel around 4 A.M. after a 911 caller reported a driver passed out at an intersection.

Officers discovered her parked near a residential yard and reported signs of impairment, believing she’d smoked marijuana, which led to charges for DUI and improper stopping on a roadway.
What nobody expected was that the case would drag on for over four years, with constant delays, continuances, and motions that went nowhere, costing her a serious amount of money and international opportunities.
According to Fox 5 Atlanta, all remaining traffic charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement, which means the case is finally closed.
Back in May 2026, Haddish’s legal team filed a motion to dismiss the entire case, arguing that the extended timeline violated her constitutional right to a speedy trial and that the delays were destroying her career, particularly her ability to work internationally, especially in Australia where travel documents were being held up.
Companies became hesitant to book her because of the unresolved case hanging over her head, and she had to hire expensive third-party help just to navigate the bureaucratic nightmare.
Her defense team had requested 10 continuances and 15 leaves of absence during the process, including one for a fashion show in Morocco, which the judge cited when denying her motion to dismiss.
The judge ruled that while the delay was significant, the defense bore responsibility for much of it, so the case proceeded toward trial before the plea deal was ultimately struck.
Under Georgia law, a “DUI less safe” charge allows prosecutors to secure a conviction if they can demonstrate a driver was impaired to the extent that operating a vehicle became unsafe, even without specific blood-alcohol concentration test results.
