For decades Friday remained a beloved comedy without a proper conclusion but Ice Cube says the long wait for the next chapter has finally reached a major milestone.

Ice Cube revealed he and Mike Epps have officially completed and submitted the script for Last Friday, the long anticipated fourth installment in the legendary comedy franchise. The announcement came Friday (July 17) during the exclusive Everyday’s Friday Lyrics, Loungin’ and Laughlin’ event at Long Beach’s new open air amphitheater, where fans gathered to celebrate the enduring legacy of the films.

Standing alongside Epps before taking the stage, Cube shared the update with an enthusiastic crowd.

“Me and Mike Epps, we just turned in the script to ‘Last Friday,’”

He followed the announcement with a joke that fit perfectly with the occasion.

“So, we waited till Friday to turn in the last Friday. You know what I mean? We waited till today, because we knew the energy would be right.”

The revelation marks one of the biggest developments surrounding the franchise in years. Fans have waited through numerous delays, cast changes and studio negotiations as Cube worked to bring the story back to the big screen.

The celebration itself served as a reunion of the Friday universe. Cast members from across the trilogy appeared throughout the evening, including Clifton Powell, Kim Whitley, Kathleen Bradley and Paula Jai Parker. Music also played a major role, with performances from Scarface, Warren G and Ice Cube closing out the festivities.

Cube also used the moment to celebrate his longtime creative partnership with Epps, who joined the series in Next Friday as the unforgettable Day Day.

“I love working with Mike Epps.”

He continued by reflecting on their chemistry.

“Out of all the actors I’ve worked with, Mike Epps and I have the most fun and we make some of the bombest movies together. So we gone always work together you ain’t never gotta worry about us.”

Earlier this year, reports indicated Cube finalized an agreement with Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema to move Last Friday forward. He has also reportedly been developing the screenplay with The Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder and original Friday co-writer DJ Pooh.

Although no release date has been announced, momentum appears to be building. Beyond the movie, Cube and Epps are also preparing a Friday themed podcast, giving fans another way to revisit the world that helped define a generation of comedy.

The Long Beach event also transformed nostalgia into a full experience. Guests explored memorable pieces from the films, including Pinky’s signature pink stretch limousine along with Craig and Day Day’s Top Flight Security guard shack, offering a reminder of why the franchise continues to resonate with audiences nearly three decades after the original debuted.
